Freshman Athlete Scholastic Training

A couple years ago, faculty member Wendy Hedrick and GVSU LAKER Academic Center Director Damon Arnold, Ph.D. came together to give first-year football student-athletes the ability to score academic touchdowns necessary for a successful college career. The FAST program is a two and a half week course offered every August for first-year football student-athletes. This seminar works to help these young men develop good study skills, enhance reading abilities for college coursework, improve testing taking skills, and provides time management tools necessary for success in juggling activities and commitments. In addition, the seminar connects the student-athletes with campus officials. Guest speakers who stopped in this year include the following:

Chuck Martin, Head Football Coach speaks

Tim Selgo, GVSU Athletic Director
Prof. Mike Roskamp, Movement Sciences
Ginger Randall, Associate Dean of Students
Sulari White and Leijhi Koval, Advising Resources & Special Programs
GVSU Scholar Ballers
GVSU Chief of Police
Oliver Wilson, Dean of Minority Affairs
Chuck Martin, Head Football Coach
