Freshman Athlete Scholastic Training

A couple years ago, faculty member Wendy Hedrick and GVSU LAKER Academic Center Director Damon Arnold, Ph.D. came together to give first-year football student-athletes the ability to score academic touchdowns necessary for a successful college career. The FAST program is a two and a half week course offered every August for first-year football student-athletes. This seminar works to help these young men develop good study skills, enhance reading abilities for college coursework, makes them aware of their resources on campus, improve testing taking skills, and provides time management tools necessary for success in juggling activities and commitments. In addition, the students receive tips and advice from upper classmen and connects the student-athletes with campus officials from a variety of academic success departments across campus.
