Latinos Working for the Future

A New Home in Michigan: The Mexican American Experience in Muskegon started as an oral history project in 2007.  Interviewers recorded the memories of Mexicans and Mexican-Americans who lived in or near the Ryerson Heights Housing Project during World War II and the years immediately following.  The residents knew Ryerson Heights as La Colonia, their little colony, located in a strange new place called Muskegon, Michigan.  The interview process produced 28 valuable personal histories which, taken together, provide a compelling social history of the new residents to Muskegon who migrated from Texas.
