Current Internship Opportunities

Latino Experience and Public History: Winter 2015, SS 2015, Fall 2015, Winter 2016 and SS 2016

Open to any students interested in public history, museum studies, library and archival work, community documentation, ethnography, oral history, Latino Studies, and/or local history, among others. Students will receive training in best practices and research methods for archival digitization and oral history. They will work with faculty and community partners to assist local communities to document their history and collect their memories. Ideally students will have their own car for transportation and be willing to work onsite in Holland and/or Hart, Michigan. Spanish language skills desirable but not required.

Documenting the Urban Native American Experience in West Michigan SS 2016 and 2016-2017 academic year

Open to any students interested in public history, museum studies, library and archival work, community documentation, story-telling, ethnography, oral history, Native American Studies, and/or local history, among others. Students will receive training in best practices and research methods for archival digitization and oral history. They will work with faculty and community partners to assist local communities to document their history and collect their memories. Work will primarily be based in Allendale and Grand Rapids.

Translation/Transcription (Spanish-English): SS 2015-Fall 2016

Advanced Spanish students and/or bilingual students needed to transcribe oral histories and help to craft bilingual teaching, training, research, and exhibition materials as part of Latino history and community documentation efforts.
