GVSU Simulation Center

simulation learning

KCON makes full use of the GVSU Simulation Center in providing the best opportunities for students to practice clinical skills and, more importantly, practice clinical decision making. In the safe environment of the Simulation Center, students face realistic patient situations through scenarios specifically designed to mimic real patients with sophisticated manikins and/or simulated patients. Students assess their patient, make nursing care decisions, implement those decisions and see what the patient outcomes would be.  Simulation has been shown to have many learning advantages for students including improving clinical judgment, promoting patient safety, increasing psychomotor skills, and increasing confidence.  Simulation also provides opportunities to enhance interprofessional skills as such experiences are designed and implemented throughout the undergraduate program. Simulations at KCON are facilitated by the KCON Faculty Simulation Team (FST), a core group of faculty who have studied and developed expertise in the science of teaching with simulation and who are devoted to creating high-impact experiences for every nursing student.
