Tools and Resources

We offer resources for those working in the philanthropic sector, leading and managing organizations, and participating in nonprofit or philanthropic studies.

Academics and Publications

We are committed to providing access to academic philanthropic resources for researchers, university faculty, and the community. As part of our commitment, we manage the Johnson Center Philanthropy Archives and Special Collections for use by community members and researchers interested in philanthropy.

We are also involved in the development of our own publications. Reports and publications have been produced by the Community Research Institute, and the Nonprofit Services. The Johnson Center is also the home of the first peer-reviewed journal on philanthropy, The Foundation Review. Other publications include Cultural Competency for Nonprofit Mental Health Organizations from Dean George Grant Jr., as well as NP2020: Issues and Answers from the Next Generation.

Community Data

Our Community Research Institute provides quality data and information about West Michigan for use by foundations and nonprofit organizations. CRI collaborates with community agencies to access and gather explicit data, conduct original research, and analyzes and interprets data in a range of socio, economic, and demographic conditions and trends.

Nonprofit and Philanthropy Good Practices

Outside of academic resources, the Johnson Center for Philanthropy provides access to good practice resources and tools to be used by nonprofit and foundation professionals. Our website NPGoodpractice.org offers practical resources for use in managing organizations, philanthropic career paths, and grantmaking.
