Research and Data

The Johnson Center for Philanthropy is committed to providing access to academic philanthropic resources for researchers, university faculty, the nonprofit sector, and the community.

Resources, Reports, and Publications

As part of this commitment, we manage the Johnson Center for Philanthropy Archives and Special Collections for use by community members and researchers interested in philanthropy.

We also develop our own publications. Reports and publications  are produced by the Community Research Institute and Nonprofit Services. The Johnson Center is also the home of the first peer-reviewed journal on philanthropy, The Foundation Review. Other publications include Cultural Competency for Nonprofit Mental Health Organizations by Dean George Grant Jr., as well as NP2020: Issues and Answers from the Next Generation.

Community Data

The Community Research Institute (CRI) provides quality data and information about West Michigan for use by foundations and nonprofit organizations. CRI collaborates with community agencies to access and gather explicit data, conduct original research, and analyzes and interprets data in a range of socio, economic, and demographic conditions and trends.
