Philanthropy Leaders Interview Series

Philanthropy is a field rich with leaders who possess a unique combination of experience, expertise, and knowledge--both academic- and practitioner-based. However, as busy professionals, we rarely--if ever--take a moment to reflect on our work as grantmakers and the field of philanthropy with these seasoned professionals.

The Grantmaking School is pleased to announce a four-part series featuring interviews with distinguished leaders in the philanthropic sector.

The second installment in The Grantmaking School's Philanthropy Leaders Interview Series features a conversation with H. Art Taylor, President and CEO of BBB Wise Giving Alliance and BBB Center. As head of the Alliance, Mr. Taylor oversees all aspects of the organization's work, which includes setting standards for soliciting organizations, evaluating individual national charities in relation to these standards, promoting charity accountability and providing a variety of materials on informed giving to individual, institutional and business donors. Recognizing that the work of foundations and nonprofit organizations can only be improved with collaboration and strategic partnerships, in this interview Mr. Taylor discusses the impact of nonprofit work on the philanthropic sector.

The series is kicked off by a discussion with Dr. Joel J. Orosz, Distinguished Professor of Philanthropic Studies at the Johnson Center for Philanthropy at Grand Valley State University and founding director of The Grantmaking School.

In this video, Joel shares his views on the hotly debated topic of whether or not philanthropy truly is a profession and the importance of professional grantmaker education.
