José Cháfer Mompó was born in l’Olleria. He began his studies at the Musical Society o tolis and continued at the Conservatorio Professional of Onteniente, where he received the title of Professor of Trumpet and Honors. His trumpet teachers have included Jose Maria Orti, Angel Millan, Pierre Thibaude, Claude Vassse, Thomas Stevens, Vincente Campos, Mario Guarneri, Otto Sauter, Gabrielle Cassone, and Ole Edvard Antonsen. In 1998 he finished his higher studies at the Conservatory of Music “Manuel Massotti Littel” de Murcia with the highest ratings.
He has been invited to perform with the symphony orchestras of Madrid and Barcelona and has also worked extensively with the symphony orchestra of Murcia as solo trumpet, recording live for RNE on numerous occasions. In addition he has been invited by Spanish Brass to perform concerts in the Canary Islands and Barcelona. In 2003 he was a semifinalist in the 5th International Trumpet Maurice Andre Competition in Paris.
He has been professor of trumpet of the 8 Editions of the International Course of Music “Vila de L’Olleria”, conducted since 2004 with Eric Aubier, Uwe Koeller, Gabriele Cassone, Manu Mellaerts, Ruben Marques, and Rex Richardson, and for which he has been Artistic Director since 2005. He has also been invited to present master classes throughout Europe.
In 2007 he served as a juror for the Trumpet Contest of Benidorm with Maurice Andrew and other major personalities from the world of trumpet. He is a member of Collage Brass Ensemble and solo trumpet with the symphony orchestra of the Teatro Chapi di Villena.
