Advantage to Headset Use with Wimba
If you will be doing two way communication, such as with the students or a guest who is invited to speak with you on Wimba, you will need to separate the speakers and the microphone. This is when having a headset becomes important because the computer's mic picks up sound from the speakers and you end up with an echo effect. There is a 3/4th second delay from when the student or guest speaks and when it is heard on the receiving computer. Your computer's microphone hears the sound and re-broadcasts it back to the listeners who hear it as a crazy echo.
The head phones eliminate the mic picking up the speakers with two way communications.
Using a computer with microphone and speakers is not an issue if you are privately recording an archive for others to listen to later or if you will not be allowing the students to speak.
