Many of the resources available on this page can be integrated into your Blackboard course site.
Audacity
Audacity is a free software program that allows users to edit and record sounds.
Fotobabble
Fotobabble allows you to record your voice as an accompaniment to a self-running slideshow of photos.
Ipadio
Ipadio allows people to broadcast their voice in realtime by streaming the audio from a phone through a website, blog or social network.
Animoto
Animoto creates customized videos using video clips, photos, text and music uploaded by users.
Automatoon
Automatoon is an (essentially) free site that allows you to create simple cartoon-like animations. The HTML5 animations it creates are viewable on mobile devices as well as standard personal computers.
Jing
Jing allows users to take screenshots and screencasts of material shown on their desktop and share it with others via a link that can be posted on sites such as twitter and Facebook. The link can also be shared in an e-mail, wiki, online forum or chat.
PhotoPeach
PhotoPeach allows users to create online photo slideshows and add background music, captions and comments. Slideshows can be posted on blogs, Facebook or twitter.
Voki
Voki allows users to create their own avatar and publish it on a blog or website. Users can have their avatars speak using their own voice.
Vuvox
Vuvox is an easy-to-use service that allows you to create scrolling "collages" that contain text, audio, or video. Vuvox content can be embedded in other websites with ease.
Xtranormal
Xtranormal uses what a user types to produce a computer animated movie.
tumblecloud
A tool for collaborative digital storytelling, where users can easily arrange, display, co-create, share and manipulate multimedia content.
Picasa
Picasa is a free program from Google that allows you to edit photos.
TeacherTube
TeacherTube is a free, education oriented video-sharing website dedicated to instructional videos.
YouTube
YouTube is a free video-sharing website where individuals can watch, share and comment on videos uploaded by registered users.
Doodle
Doodle is a free web service that allows you to schedule meetings by easily finding the times your group is able to meet.
Evernote
Evernote allows users to store and organize notes, whether they are hand written, typed, a photo, or excerpts of a web pages and access them from the user's computer, phone or the web. These notes can also be searched for later on.
Teammates
Teammates is a tool that allows you to create web-based peer assessments, useful for group projects where you'd like students to evaluate the work and contributions of fellow group members.
Livebinders
Livebinders allows its users to organize their digital information in the form of online binders.
Netvibes
Netvibes is a personalized dashboard publishing platform for the web. The dashboard is comprised of each user's favorite online information, such as blogs, e-mail, photos, widgets, and applications.
OpenOffice
OpenOffice is a free open-source software suite for applications focused on word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics and databases.
Toodledo
Toodledo allows users to create online to-do lists, which can be accessed from your phone or web browser.
Zotero
Zotero helps users manage their research sources, and it's located in the user's web browser. Users can collect, organize, cite and share their references.
Diigo
Diigo is a social bookmarking service that also allows its users to highlight and make notes on web pages.
Delicious
Delicious is a free social bookmarking service, allowing users to store and share their bookmarks and search what other users' bookmarks on the web.
Dropbox
Dropbox is a cloud computing service that allows individuals to store and share files via the Internet. Dropbox syncs all the files so that users can access their files from more than one computer.
Facebook is a social network that allows users to create a profile and connect with friends, family and co-workers around the world.
Second Life
Second Life is a virtual world where users can create avatars and interact with other users.
Skype
Skype users can make free one-on-one voice calls with other Skype users via the Internet. Video conferencing between two people is also free.
Twitter is a social networking service that lets users post and read short messages called tweets. Users can subscribe to other users' twitter accounts, which is an action referred to as following.
VoiceThread
VoiceThread creates group conversations via multimedia slideshows in which users can leave comments through audio, video or text.
Voxopop
Voxopop enables users to create talkgroups, which are forums where members communicate by talking instead of typing.
Wordpress
Wordpress is a content management system that enables users to create websites or blogs.
Animaps
Animaps lets you create animated maps that play back like a movie. Features include animated map markers, lines, shapes, as well as dynamic images, text, and videos.
Bubbl.us
Bubbl.us lets users create diagrams as a means of brainstorming and organizing thoughts.
Conceptboard
Conceptboard allows you to create shared whiteboards for collaborative drawing, document markup, or presentation. Users may create up to 25 boards for free; more than 24 requires a paid account.
Dipity
A "freemium" service that allows users to create interactive timelines.
Infogr.am
Infogr.am allows you to create customized, interactive information graphics based on your own data.
MindMeister
A concept mapping tool that includes deep collaboration features, the ability to "replay" the history of a map. Fully functional mobile apps are available for Android (free), iPhone (free), and iPad ($7.99).
Mindomo
A concept mapping tool that allows for embedding images, video, and audio. Includes collaboration tools and the ability to gather comment and feedback on concept maps. The free version offers a maximum of 3 maps and limited features. Premium plans are less than $5 per month, with a 50% educational discount included.
Pixton
Pixton allows users to create detailed comic strips through customizable characters and backgrops.
PresentMe
PresentMe is a web tool that allows you to record your narration, timed to your slide presentation, with coordinating video from your webcam. PresentMe unifies all three together so that others can view your full presentation anywhere, anytime. PresentMe has a free plan that limits the length and number of your presentations. Paid plans allow for fewer restrictions and more features.
Prezi
Prezi is a web-based presentation application that allows users to create a presentation using one space versus using traditional slides. Users zoom out to show the overall concept of their presentation and then zoom in to reveal the details.
Slideshare
Slideshare is a website that lets users upload, share, download and comment on presentations, documents and pdf files.
Symbaloo
Symbaloo enables users to create a visual diagram of their favorite online content to make navigating through the web easier and then share it with friends.
TimeToast
TimeToast allows students to easily create attractive informational timelines and to share them with other students or with the world at large.
WebDoc
Similar to Glogster, WebDoc allows you to assemble online posters that contain a variety of multimedia and interactive elements.
Wordle
Wordle creates word clouds from text users input. A word cloud is an image of all of words the user provides in a shape that somewhat resembles a cloud. Users can refine their word cloud by changing the font, layout and color scheme.
Google's URL Shortener
Google provides this tool for taking long website addresses (URLs) and making them shorter and easier to share.
Google Reader
Google Reader updates users when new content is added to the websites and blogs they subscribe too. Google Reader even keeps track of what you read.
Google Calendar
People with Google accounts can create online calendars to manage their schedule. Users also have the ability to create multiple calendars and share them with others, making it easier to coordinate schedules.
Google Docs
Google Docs allows users to share and edit documents, spreadsheets and presentations online.
Google Forms
An interesting feature of Google Docs is the ability to create and publish survey questionnaires that can collect user information and store it in a Google Docs spreadsheet.
Google Earth
Users can view satellite images of areas of interest via Google Earth.
Google Maps
Google Maps generates get step-by-step driving instructions, allows users to check live traffic conditions in select cities and plan a trip with multiple stops.
Google Scholar
Google Scholar is a free search engine specifically for scholarly literature.
GoSoapBox
Students can use this tool on their laptops or smartphones to answer quizzes and polls, as well as engage in discussions and pose questions for the instructor to answer. A unique feature of GoSoapBox is the "confusion barometer" that allows instructors to gauge whether the class is understanding the material or not.
LectureTools
LectureTools aims to be more than just an ARS. Developed by actual higher education faculty, the systems allows presentation slides to be pushed out to student devices, offers multiple polling options, and give students the ability to take cloud-stored notes and pose questions of their instructor.
PollEverywhere
An online Audience Response System (ARS), similar to "clickers" made by companies like Turning Point Technologies. With a PollEverywhere poll, students can participate through text message, website, or by Twitter. Includes a free plan, but for access to premium features (e.g. identifying participants, having custom texting keywords, larger number of participants) there is a monthly fee.
QuestionPress
Another web-based ARS compatible with laptops and smartphones. QuestionPress is unique in that students do not need to sign-up for accounts or pay for them. Instructors pay for a certain number of "responders" to be available during a session.
Socrative
Free response system that allows students to participate either using a laptop or a smartphone. Offers iOS applications for both students and instructors.
Top Hat Monocle
Students can participate participate in polls using laptops, smart phones, or text messages. The tool is free for faculty, but students must pay a fee after a trial period.
Curriki
Curriki is a wiki-based site housing a variety of educational resources, generally focused on K-12 education.
OER Commons
A curated collection of open education resources, covering a variety of grade levels and subjects.
WikiEducator
An evolving community intended for collaborative planning of education projects, development of free content, and networking on funding proposals developed as free content.
Teachem
Teachem allows users to create "classes" from YouTube videos, with questions and flashcards included.
Speaker Deck
Speaker Deck is an easy-to-use site that allows users to share presentations online.
Bitstrips
Bitstrips allows you to create a cartoon avatar and place it into a series of comic strip panels.
Meograph
Meograph allows you to create an interactive timeline-based multimedia presentation, combining text, images, video clips, and narration.
Pathbrite
Pathbrite allows users to create learning portfolios that showcase their academic accomplishments.
Weebly
While Weebly is a general purpose site designed to let the average user design websites, it is a favorite tool for creating teaching portfolios in the College of Education.
