Information Technology Set Up Procedures
Along with Google Mail, GVSU is offering the use of Google Sites for students and faculty/staff who have an authorized GVSU Google Mail account.
Per Google, Google Sites is the easiest way to make information accessible to people who need quick, up-to-date access. People can work together on a Site to add file attachments, information from other Google applications (like Google Docs, Google Calendar, YouTube and Picasa), and new free-form content. Creating a site together is as easy as editing a document, and you always control who has access, whether it's just yourself, your team, or your whole organization. You can even publish Sites to the world. The Google Sites web application is accessible from any internet connected computer.
Proper set up and use of your Google Site will ensure ongoing authorized access. Below you will find our procedures on the set up and ongoing use:
- All Google Sites must have an authorized and active Google Mail account assigned by GVSU Information Technology. GVSU Faculty/Staff may request a GVSU Google Mail account from *Computer Account Authorizations or auth@gvsu.edu.
- All Google Sites must adhere to the naming convention: sites.mail.gvsu.edu/email acct Thus if your Google Mail account is smithj@mail.gvsu.edu then your Google Sites must be sites.mail.gvsu.edu/smithj
- Google Sites are for the personal use of the owner and may not be used for commercial purposes.
- All other Information Technology Policy and Procedures apply as well as the Student Code, refer to Appendix A
Abuse complaints and/or failure to abide by the above procedures may result in deletion of the Google Sites content and/or removal of the GVSU Google Mail and Sites account.
Disclaimer: Google Sites will function and operate as long as GVSU and Google maintain a collaborative working agreement. There is no guarantee that data held within Google Sites will be available for a long term commitment. GVSU, to the best of its ability, will notify end users (by email account, which is critical in the naming convention) if the status of the use of Google Sites changes.
