What is Banner?

Grand Valley's current major administrative packages, SunGard/SCT IDMS Student Information Systems, Financial Records Systems and Human Resources Systems have served the campus for over 16 years. Our current vendor, SunGard/SCT, will be working with GVSU to upgrade to the latest educational suite of applications called Banner.

Why upgrade to Banner?

The upgrade to Banner will provide GVSU with updated industry standards for hardware and software applications, 24x7 access to web services as well as position GVSU for additional strategic opportunities that are difficult to implement with the current technology.

The current administrative systems are running on IBM hardware that will not be supported after 2007 and SunGard/SCT IDMS software that will soon be non-supported.

Demonstrations on the upgraded software were held in February 2004 as well as additional sessions with individual functional units in September 2004.

What are the next steps?

On October 8, 2004, GVSU successfully negotiated the contract with SunGard/SCT for the upgrade to Banner.  During the month of October, GVSU will begin discussions with SunGard/SCT to determine the three to five year implementation schedule. Internal committees will be appointed to work on the upgrade project and provide progress reports to the GVSU community.
