Banner Training

Welcome to the Banner information site

Current Status Report - May 20, 2009

We continue to upgrade the Banner system with a successful implementation of Banner 8.x this past year. This has brought new opportunities for Banner applications and other third party applications to be considered for projects this upcoming year.

We are currently working on two major projects that will tie into the Banner systems and provide greater efficiencies for students, faculty, advisors and functional staff.

The first project is a Room Scheduling system, called EMS, which will provide integration of all academic and non-academic spaces to be housed in the same database. This will allow greater efficiencies in booking requests for space, which will be able to be done via the Internet. The application also provides tools to assist in optimizing room space as it pertains to size and features requested.

The second project is an application that will provide students, faculty and advisors improved access and viewing capabilities of each student's degree progress while also providing a planning and advising tool to assist in course selection by semester. The system also provides for "What If Analysis" and "Look Ahead Analysis" to assist students who are considering changing majors, minors or looking ahead to what is left on their current graduation requirements. The system is called MyPath and will be available through Self Service Banner sometime in the summer of 2010.

Reminder - Self Service Banner (SSB) classes will continue to be offered over for anyone to attend and learn how the Banner system operates. Further, Internet Native Banner (INB) classes are also being offered for those members of the academic community who want additional access to certain Banner views and processes. Note that INB classes are more detailed and for security purposes, not available to all registrants.

Questions - please do not hesitate to contact us at banner@gvsu.edu. Thank you for working with us during our many Banner upgrades and third party application projects. It is greatly appreciated.
