A Midsummer Night’s Dream
My favorite memory from England was seeing a Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Globe Theater in London. The theater is remodeled after the original building which was built in 1599. Most of the theater is standing room. Back then, standing tickets were very inexpensive, and that is what most of the townspeople would do- stand and watch a play for its duration. We waited in line for a long time to get a good spot near the stage, and it was well worth it because the play was phenomenal! I had never seen one of Shakespeare’s plays before and I had no idea it was going to be funny. The actors were all very good, and we were so close to the stage we could reach out and touch them at some points. I had a huge smile on my face the whole time as I was watching the drama unfold. This was one of my favorite memories from England because theater is a huge part of British culture. I had never heard of standing seating at a play before, and I’m glad I got to experience it and get a feel for what theater was like in Elizabethan times.
