Global Customs Trade Compliance Intern

The intent of this internship is to support day-to-day inquiries regarding customs compliance for import and export shipments (US, CA, MX) in order to reduce the amount of duty paid and/or increase the level of shipment compliance. 

 

There will be two main projects in which the outcome will deliver savings for Adient.

  • Tooling and Equipment Duty Savings Project

  • Northbound Incoterms Project

  

Both projects will involve documenting the current process, identifying process improvements and implementing the projects to achieve savings and duty avoidances.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Handle inquiries with US brokers on day-to-day shipments

  • Interface with vendors when new invoices (with correct data elements) are needed

  • Run interface with all parties (STTAS, Plants, Brokers, and Vendors) for potential cost avoidance by obtaining necessary documentation:

    • 9801 potentials – obtain FSD and MA

    • NAFTA potentials

  • Work with Adient plants on export commercial invoices inquiries/training

 

Interfaces with:

  • 3rd Party Service Providers

  • Brokers and Carriers

  • Adient Logistics and Supply Chain teams

 

Qualifications

 

Required Skills:

  • Above average communication skills including active listening, strong verbal competency and comfortable presenting information in a meeting environment

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment

  • Effectively prioritize multiple tasks/projects simultaneously

  • Strong critical thinking skills that will support making sense of and extracting information from long complex email chains

  • Quick learner that can establish internal processes for import/export

  • Fluent in Spanish a plus

 

Desired Skills (but will train):

  • Basic knowledge of Import/Export requirements for CA/US/MX

  • Basic knowledge of NAFTA/9801/etc.
