Grand Valley State University Peace and Justice Award

The Grand Valley State University Peace and Justice Award was established at Grand Valley State University in 1987.  The income from the Award is to be used in a variety of ways, with emphasis on promoting the cause of peace and justice in the affairs of peoples and nations and/or on increasing sensitivity to the concerns aroused by the presence of nuclear arms and other sophisticated armaments in our world. The Award is administered by a faculty committee which makes allocations from its income in ways that are in keeping with the fundamental emphasis of the Award.  Among these are:

1. An annual scholarship award open to GVSU students.

2. An annual essay contest open to GVSU students.

3. Purchase of media materials for the GVSU Media Services library and acquisitions for the GVSU Zumberge Library that are in keeping with the purpose of the Fund.

4. Support for courses which have content in keeping with the purpose of the Fund.  For example: An honorarium for a guest speaker for the present course, LIB 345 - War in a Nuclear Age, might be provided by the Fund.

For more information on media material and course support, please contact Susan Mendoza at 616.331.8100.

Grand Valley State University is grateful to Mr. Paul Hoffman, the founder and first contributor to the GVSU Peace and Justice Award.  Further contributions can be made to the Award by contributing to the GVSU Foundation with a notation for inclusion in the GVSU Peace and Justice Award.
