Receptions held for diverse graduates

Receptions at the end of April celebrated the achievements of diverse graduates.
More than 130 students participated in the Black Graduation Celebration on April 28 at the Fieldhouse.
Rik Stevenson, faculty member of African/African American Studies, was the speaker; students and other faculty and staff members also participated in the ceremony. Each graduate received a stole.
Hunter Genia, Native American advisory board member, spoke at the Native American reception on April 28 at the DeVos Center.
Genia, who graduated from Grand Valley in 1999, is a social worker and alcohol and drug counselor. He serves as a consultant or board member for several area and statewide tribal councils.
The graduation receptions were sponsored by the Division of Inclusion and Equity and faculty/staff affinity groups. Receptions were also held in April for Hispanic/Latino, Asian and LGBTQ graduates.
