Interfraternity Council

A Letter from the InterFraternity Council President

Dear Grand Valley Student,

Involvement on campus is the key to a great college experience, and with the student organizations offered at Grand Valley the opportunities to learn things never found in a textbook are endless. Joining a student organization is crucial to enjoying your college years, and a great option to consider is a fraternity. Fraternities provide a unique combination of benefits and resources to both maximize your college experience and improve your growth as a person.

Like many current fraternity members, I never thought I would join Greek life. Three years ago, I was within the majority of the student body that completely misunderstood Greek life and the countless advantages it offered students. I decided to give it a try, and once I started hanging out at some recruitment events I noticed fraternity life was not what I expected. It offered advantages unmatched by any other club or activity, and gave its members countless resources and activities to be a part of. I ended up joining an organization I never even knew existed three weeks beforehand, and it was the best decision of my life.

While my story may seem tting for this handout, it is not unique. Most current fraternity members will tell you they never planned on joining a fraternity and in the same sentence will tell you how glad they are they did. In the midst of skyrocketing enrollment and new, larger buildings on every corner, Greek life at Grand Valley is growing ten times faster than the student body, and our Greek system is making waves all across the country.

Going to a recruitment event holds no obligations, and you will only be asked to make a decision on joining when you are ready. I highly recommend seeing if fraternity life is right for you, because I know there’s a good chance you’ll be hooked once you do.

If you have any questions for me at all, please don’t hesitate to contact me at the email below.

Sincerely,
