The "I am Grand Valley" Leadership Reception is held annually in late January and provides the GVSU community to come together to celebrate student leadership. It is a casual, open-house style event for students to stop by pick up their personalized certificate and t-shirt, mingle, and enjoy refreshments. Nominators are also invited to attend and encouraged to meet up with the student/s they nominated. There is no formal presentation during the reception so attendees are welcome to stop by at any time. However, please note that brief remarks and a group photo have been included in the past several years. Typically, several hundred students attend this event annually.
Nominated students and nominators will receive an email invitation to attend and must RSVP. Nominated students who do not fill out the response/rsvp form will NOT receive their personalized certificate or t-shirt. Please refer to the FAQ page for more information on this.
What should nominees wear?
This is not a formal event, so no special attire is requested. However, we do encourage nominees to put on their I am Grand Valley t-shirt for a great photo opportunity at the event.
Is this an event I should invite my family to?
It is not recommended to invite family members to this event, as students do not receive individual recognition at the event, due to the volume of recipients.
What if I have class during the reception and am unable to attend?
For nominees who responded/rsvped, personalized certificates and t-shirts will be available for pick up in the Office of Student Life (1110 Kirkhof Center, Allendale Campus) for two weeks following the event date.
What if there is an error on my certificate or if it was not printed?
For nominees who responded/rsvped, you may contact firstname.lastname@example.org to order a re-print of your certificate. Please note that the information printed on your certificate was provided by your nominator and is not the error of the Student Life Staff.
