What is "I am Grand Valley"?
"I am Grand Valley" is a leadership recognition program. The program recognizes student leaders who are the essential elements of the University community, including student employees, leaders in student organizations, resident assistants, students that excel in the classroom, and so on. Every year, students, faculty and staff are asked to nominate students who they feel display and utilize strong leadership skills that contribute to the campus and beyond.

How are nominated students recognized?
Nominated students are recognized throughout the semester on "I am Grand Valley" days, and will be recognized with an "I am Grand Valley" shirt and certificate on January 30, 2013 at the Leadership Reception.

How long has "I am Grand Valley" been in existence?
January 2013 will be the 10th year of recognizing students. The program started in 2003 - 2004.

Who created it?
The Office of Student Life created the program to recognize student leaders who contribute to the campus community, and to inspire other students to get involved. Students notice the shirts around campus and want to know how they can get one; which is by getting involved on campus and becoming a student leader.

How many nominations were there in the past years?
There were about 450 nominations in Fall 2006, around 400 in Fall 2007 and 624 in Fall 2008. In 2009 there were over 850 students nominated! 2011 set the record for having over a thousand students nominated!

What else does the campaign entail?
The first Wednesday of every month is "I am Grand Valley" day, on which students are encouraged to wear their shirts, stickers and buttons. In January, there will be an "I am Grand Valley" calendar of leadership related events open to all students called Campus Leadership Week. This year, Campus Leadership Week will take place January 28 - February 1, 2013.  If you have an event that you would like included in the "I am Grand Valley" campaign, please e-mail iamgv@gvsu.edu.
