It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our department website. This is a great time to consider a future in one of the world's largest industries - hospitality and tourism management (HTM). The career opportunities in this vibrant and dynamic sector of our economy are virtually unlimited with indicators suggesting continued growth in employment prospects for the foreseeable future (U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics).
Like our industry, our curriculum has evolved to reflect contemporary practice providing a core of relevant subjects applicable to any sector of the HTM industries. With help from our dedicated faculty and advisors, HTM students select a career emphasis area and undertake coursework that focuses specifically on the skills, knowledge, and abilities that employers have indicated are essential for success in their chosen profession. Our faculty is committed to quality teaching and professional development of our students through an applied learning philosophy. This is evidenced by the application of classroom knowledge through a series of structured, worked-based internships which offer an excellent opportunity to complement the theory with the practice of industry and development a series of transferable skills. As indicated by our goals and objectives in our strategic plan for the program, the department strives to give all of our students a quality education.
This website offers a great starting point to learn more about our curriculum, potential careers, the teaching team, and a number of opportunities available to you as a member of our HTM family. We are all here to support and guide you towards growing into a true hospitality professional and I trust you'll contact me if you have any questions or comments.
