Student Organizations

American Hotel and Lodging Association (AH&LA) is a discussion-based student chapter that is heavily focused on the lodging industry.  This AHLA Student Chapter is nationally recognized by the American Hotel and Lodging Association, and uses tools presented by AHLA executives to aid members in their experience.  Student memberships are suggested to student chapter members so that they can experience AHLA to its fullest and attend AHLA national conferences.

This student chapter will give you a jump-start into the lodging industry through hotel tours and discussion.  We focus on development, operations (all departments), finances, and management strategies.  Together, we will develop skills, knowledge, leadership, and communications to aid in success of our student members upon graduation of Grand Valley State University - Hospitality and Tourism Management.

Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) Club is a networking opportunity to meet and mingle with not only other HTM majors at Grand Valley, but professionals in the industry. Our events are a mixture of every aspect of the hospitality world exploring every industry to get everyone involved. We encourage those interested in hospitality to come learn from guest speakers who are industry professionals, as well as to explore the local hospitality culture we have here in Grand Rapids. This year, we have added a new aspect to HTM Club called HTM2 which is a student-led mentor program for students to get advice from other students about the program, courses, and internships. If you would like to become a part of the program, be sure to check us out!  We can't wait to meet you and give you opportunities to meeting professionals, peers, and faculty in the Hospitality and Tourism industry!

The National Society of Minorities in Hospitality (NSMH) is the premier professional organization for hospitality students. We address diversity and multiculturalism, as well as the career development of our student members. We feel that these lessons are important to the future leaders of this industry and that anyone of any ethnicity, gender, or other demographic group can find value in our conversation. We provide events and programs that bring together college-level students with company sponsors, industry representatives, other hospitality organizations, advisors and mentors, and hospitality high school students. NSMH is a resource for the industry to find dynamic talent as well as for students to find qualified answers to relevant questions and have a window to the industry that awaits them!
