American Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLA) is a discussion-based student chapter that is heavily focused on the lodging industry. This AHLA Student Chapter is nationally recognized by the American Hotel and Lodging Association, and uses tools presented by AHLA executives to aid members in their experience. Student memberships are suggested to student chapter members so that they can experience AHLA to its fullest and attend AHLA national conferences.
This student chapter will give you a jump-start into the lodging industry through hotel tours and discussion. We focus on development, operations (all departments), finances, and management strategies. Together, we will develop skills, knowledge, leadership, and communications to aid in success for our student members upon graduation of Grand Valley State University - Hospitality and Tourism Management.
Hospitality and Tourism Management Club is a networking opportunity to meet and mingle with not only other HTM majors at Grand Valley, but professionals in the industry. Our events are a mixture of every aspect of the hospitality world, exploring every industry to get everyone involved. We encourage those interested in hospitality to come learn from guest speakers who are industry professionals, as well as to explore the local hospitality culture we have here in Grand Rapids. This year, we have added a new aspect to HTM Club called HTM2 which is a student-led mentor program for students to get advice from other students about the program, courses, and internships. If you would like to become a part of this program, be sure to check us out! We can't wait to meet you and give you opportunities to meet professionals, peers, and faculty in the Hospitality and Tourism industry!
Meeting Professionals International (MPI) is in its fourth year at GVSU. By joining, you will have opportunities to go to local meetings and conferences that will include educational sessions, as well as networking opportunities. We are focusing on developing individuals for the professional world by giving opportunities to fully immerge in the vibrant hospitality industry we will be working in. In addition to conferences and meetings, MPI will have some bonding activities and trips to volunteer. The GVSU Student Chapter of MPI has participated in previous trips to the NCAA Men's Final Four offering members the opportunity to see a large scale event from the bottom up. Come join the fun and better yourself as a business professional!
The Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) is the leading organization for meeting and event professionals. Grand Valley is a part of the Greater Mid-West Chapter and participates in the Convening Leaders Conference PCMA has to offer. Our main focus is fundraising for this annual professional convention to become more affordable for club members. Here we will be able to network with professionals in the industry and learn about new trends in convention, meeting and event planning. We are passionate about strengthening our networking connections. This club will be beneficial for any business and hospitality student looking a professional club to be a part of.
