Laurie Kelbel has been an adjunct professor in the Hospitality and Tourism Department at Grand Valley for the last 13 years. She has over 27 years of restaurant management experience and currently is a member of the Applebee's management team. Previously, Laurie was Vice President of Operations for Cheers Inc. where she oversaw three facilities and 175 employees. Laurie's job experience between independent and corporate restaurant facilities provide her with a wide range of knowledge and experiences that she is able to draw from during her classroom discussions.
She has been responsible for the development and management of all operational and customer service functions. Other duties include hiring, training and supervision of 175 management, administrative and hourly personnel, developed annual sales and profit goals, operation and purchasing budgets, menu development, managed expenses and capital equipment expenditures and managed all marketing-print and electronic.
Additional duties include design and implementation of special promotions; development of all corporate training manuals; coordination of a corporate accounting conversion from a manual to a computerized system; design and development of new menu offerings; administration of annual employee performance reviews; development of organizations first employee handbook; and resolution of customer problems and complaints.
