Dr. Mike Sciarini has more than 30 years of experience teaching, working in and/or continually learning about a variety of hospitality businesses, with a special interest and background in hotel operations. Before joining the GVSU HTM Department in 2011, he served on the faculty of Michigan State University and held lodging operations and event management positions with Westin (now Starwood) Hotels and Winegardner and Hammons, Inc. He has also worked with Pearson Higher Education Publishing, Great River Technologies and the American Hotel and Lodging Association's Educational Institute on the development of a variety of training and educational materials for the hospitality industry.
Co-author (along with Dr. Robert Woods of the University of Nevada at Las Vegas and Dr. Misty Johanson of DePaul University) of Managing Hospitality Human Resources, 5th edition. Published in November 2011 by the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute.
Co-editor, Special Double Issue of the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Education (Theme: Instructional Technology - Teaching to Engage Hospitality Students) set for Spring 2012 publication.
Named to the Editorial Review Board of the Journal of Human Resources in Hospitality and Tourism (October 2011).
