Job Summary

Responsible for Plant Services supplies, inventory and warehouse(s) functions; coordinates Plant Services purchases.

Essential Functions

  • Receives and processes order slips, inventory sheets, purchase orders, and similar materials according to departmental procedures.
  • Maintains appropriate stock levels and initiates the ordering process.
  • Verifies materials received against placed orders, reconciles discrepancies, traces en-route materials or equipment and verifies delivery dates, initiates damage claims.
  • Codes materials with item numbers and pricing information.
  • Maintains records (computerized and paper) as required for inventory control; prepares standard and requested reports; provides analysis of data.
  • Issues tools, equipment, and supplies according to procedures; delivers such materials to work sites as necessary. May deliver materials to other storage locations on/off campus.
  • Fill order sheets for distribution to Plant Services staff on campus.
  • Unloads and assists in unloading delivery vehicles in cooperation with the Material and Mail Handles stock intended for storage in stores, warehouse(s), tool crib areas.
  • Assists Plant Services supervisors with procuring emergency supplies.
  • Monitors and reports on use of Supply Room card access system.
  • Responsible for the orderliness and cleanliness of the supply, warehouse(s), tool crib areas.
  • Supervise student employees.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Non-Essential Functions

  • Orders and issues Plant Services employees uniforms.
  • Maintains, controls, and tags campus surplus items in store for redistribution and/or sale.
  • Recommends action to be taken based on analysis of information and university/department policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates Plant Services purchases complying with the university’s purchasing policies and procedures and departmental guidelines.

Required Qualifications

  • High school graduate.
  • Minimum of two years of related work experience and/or training required the maintenance, handling, and distribution of stock.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully maintain positive interpersonal relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully operate office equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully provide quality customer service.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully maintain satisfactory work performance and attendance records.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully work independently, organize own work and coordinate work activities of others.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully use various computer software applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully perform detailed record keeping duties.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully perform mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy.
  • Valid Michigan Drivers license.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully operate a Hi-Lo forklift and similar equipment.
  • Physical condition adequate for the performance of the jobs duties (bending, lifting, climbing, moving heavy objects etc.).

Supervision Received

Receives minimal supervision from a designated supervisor. Much of the work is self-initiated. Person is expected to function with considerable independence and apply appropriate policies and procedures within the assigned area of responsibility.

Supervision Exercised

Hire, train, schedule and coordinate the work of student employees and may act as lead worker to PSS staff members within the department/unit/division.
