Title: Database & Technology Specialist
Classification: T3 Department: College of Education
Title: Database & Technology Specialist – College of Education Job Summary: Primary Duties & Global Responsibilities: · Maintains the College of Education server · Provides software and hardware support for faculty and staff · Makes recommendations for software and hardware purchases · Provides training and user support for online systems · Determines compatibility of multiple software products used for data collection · Monitors and maintains six complex internal databases · Development and upgrading of online assessment and faculty Showcase (vitae) system · Demonstrates technological proficiency involving data manipulation, graphic display, spreadsheets, word processing, and web-based design and usage · Assists the unit in centralizing systems, and coordinating database management with other staff and faculty · Determines which university data is most relevant, input, compile, and analyze statistical data for faculty and administration · Provides data that affects unit operations, e.g., enrollment patterns, and program/curriculum review · Provides data that affects accreditation, e.g., from the 23 CLAS education majors, Michigan Department of Education and NCATE · Assists with preparation of required electronic documents for NCATE reporting Secondary Duties and Responsibilities: · Assist with website design · Set up special functions and events · Maintains current and archival records for university curriculum approval, state certification, program approval, and accreditation Minimum Required Qualifications: · An Associate Degree in Data Processing, MS Certification or equivalent training and /or experience working with MS products (Excel, Word, Advanced Access queries and reports) and/or two years technical training · Demonstrated experience to successfully work under pressure and meet deadlines · Demonstrated experience to successfully maintain positive interpersonal relationships · Demonstrated experience to successfully maintain satisfactory work performance and attendance record · Possess strong verbal and written communication skills · Demonstrated experience to successfully work independently, organize own work and coordinate activities of others · Demonstrated experience to successfully provide quality customer service Desired Qualifications: · Bachelor’s degree · Higher Education experience · Knowledge of hardware and software comparable to that used at Grand Valley · Desire to stay current with technological advances in related fields Supervision Received: Supervision Exercised:
