Spring/Summer Housing 2016

Living on campus for spring/summer is affordable & easy. Housing & Residence Life staff will work with you to transition smoothly between living units, and there is no charge to stay on campus between contract-periods (see "Semester Transition Information" below). Move-In for Spring/Summer is May 7th & 8th if you are not transitioning between contract periods. You can still apply for Spring/Summer Housing! Click here to apply!

Application Instructions

  1. Submit a $150 deposit if you do not already have one on file with the University.

  2. Log into the MyHousing Application in Banner and complete the Spring Summer 2016 housing application.

  3. Indicate your personal and room preferences in the MyHousing Overview. Students are placed in application date order. Assignment coordinators will hand place students into rooms (you will not be self-selecting). 

  4. Email with any roommate requests. Include roommate(s) name, student number and the semester you are requesting them for. Do not use the Roommate/Suitemate tab to enter roommate information for Spring Summer 2016. Roommate requests must be submitted by March 11 for consideration.

Contract Terms

The Spring/Summer semester 2016 contract period is either a 6-week option or 12-week option:

6-week: May 7, 2016 through June 23, 2016.

6-week: June 25, 2016 through August 10, 2016.

12-week: May 7, 2016 through August 10, 2016. 

Note: Residents must be a GVSU student, enrolled in classes for the Winter semester 2016 and/or the Fall 2016 semester. Enrollment in Spring/Summer classes is not required for occupancy. Students securing a Spring/Summer semester 2016 housing assignment after May 7 will be charged a pro-rated daily housing rate. 

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation Prior to Occupancy

  • Cancellation must be received prior to May 1, 2016 to be eligible for a refund of the $150 housing deposit.

Cancellation During Occupancy

A student interested in canceling their contract must contact their Living Center Director to obtain a Contract Release Request Form. Contract releases during occupancy will be reviewed individually. Releases will be granted for academic related circumstances only. Residents who do not qualify for a release may exercise the buyout option, paying 50% of remaining portion of the contract in addition to the forfeiture of the $150 housing deposit.

Important Dates/Deadlines

September 2015: Spring/Summer semester 2015 Application Available.

Mid to Late February, 2016: Spring/Summer semester 2016 Housing Rates Posted.

March 11, 2016: Preferred deadline to submit a Spring/Summer semester 2016 Housing Application and request roommate(s). Students are placed in application date order.

Mid April- 2016: Spring/Summer semester 2016 housing assignments posted on the MyHousing Overview.

April 29, 2016: Winter Semester 2015 housing contract ends. Residents not approved for Extended Stay must check out of their housing assignment by 10pm Friday, April 29.

May 1, 2016: Deadline to cancel Spring/Summer semester 2016 housing contract without penalty. Cancellation charges will apply to Spring/Summer semester 2016 contract cancellations received after May 1, 2016.

May 7-8, 2016: Spring Semester and Spring/Summer Semester Check-In

May 9, 2016: Spring Semester 2015 classes begin

June 21-22, 2016: Spring Semester Final Examinations

June 23, 2016: Check-Out (1st Six Weeks)

June 25-26, 2016: Check-In (2nd Six Weeks)

June 27, 2016: Summer Semester 2015 classes begin

August 9-10, 2016: Summer Semester Final Examinations.

August 10, 2016: Spring/Summer semester 2016 housing contract ends. Residents not transitioning to a Fall 2016 on-campus housing assignment must check out of housing assignment by 10pm Wednesday, August 10, 2016.
