Announcements

Dear Laker,

Welcome to Grand Valley and congratulations on your selection of the Movement Science House Living-Learning community located in South D Living Center! We look forward to your arrival in August, and anticipate a wonderful year of academic and social programming that will enhance your time at GVSU.

Grand Valley's Movement Science House comprises an academic learning and living community for students, first-year through senior year. Students study within Movement Science Majors (Physical Education, Exercise Science, Athletic Training and Sport Leadership). The house will be offering a wide range of social and academic events that will provide a supportive learning environment for all students. The community will include programs such as undergraduate research, on-site faculty office hours, academic and professional advising, tutoring, student club involvement in majors clubs, guest speakers, etc.

Living in the Movement Science House provides opportunities to connect with Grand Valley students, and network with faculty and professionals in the Movement Science profession, maximizing your student experience. Research shows that students who are engaged in their university community are more likely to persist and complete their college degree. The Movement Science House is a great first step to launching your academic success.

This year we are excited to announce a very beneficial curricular offering reserved for Movement Science House residents/members. We are strongly encouraging all students living in the community to consider registering for two courses that are available specifically for MOV House students:

Fall 2013: MOV 101 Section 7 - "Foundations of Human Movement Science" (required course for all major programs in the Movement Sciences)

Winter 2014: LIB 100 Section 14 - "Introduction to Liberal Education"

(Required GVSU general education course from the Philosophy and Literature foundations)

These courses will provide the opportunity for MOV House students to connect inside the classroom bridging co-curricular experiences to your academic work. Many of you have already been registered for this course sequence, however, if you haven't please strongly consider this adjustment to your schedule. If you need any assistance please feel free to contact Dr. Brian Hatzel ( hatzelb@gvsu.edu, (616) 331-8538).

We will kick off this year at our move in meeting Tuesday, August 20th at 5pm. Additionally, we have planned a fun filled and exciting day of team building and challenge course activities at Camp Roger in Rockford on Wednesday, August 21st (all day). Please make certain to plan for the above activities as they are vital to kicking off the year successfully.
