2016-2017 VanSteeland Resident Assistant
Skylar is a fourth year student at GVSU pursuing a double major in Psychology and Women, Gender, and Sexuality studies. Skylar is proud to have been a student worker at the Milton E. Ford LGBT Resource Center for two years before transitioning to his resident assistant role here at the Gender Justice House. This year, Skylar is looking forward to running social justice training sessions with Intersections Ambassadors, co-facilitating the Milton E. Ford LGBT Resource Center's upperclassman organization Loud and Queer, working with Inclusion and Equity to help improve the campus climate for students who are marginalized, and conducting research on LGBTQIA+ student mental health. While Skylar has an ambitious tendency to stay busy, what he cares about most is being there for others as they process, grow, and develop new perspectives of the world and each other. After graduating, Skylar intends to pursue licensure as a social worker and to eventually work as a counselor specializing in gender, sexuality, and the mental health effects of marginalization.
