Welcome to the Housing & Residence Life Student Employment page, where you'll find ways to get involved in the many opportunities that Grand Valley's Housing Office has to offer!

The application deadline for 2014-2015 HRL student employment opportunities has passed. Applications for current students were due on February 28. Applications for incoming freshmen and transfer students were due on July 11. While the application remains open, the committee is not actively reviewing applications at this time.


Desk Assistants perform front desk administrative functions, including working with keys, facilities, mail and packages, and general clerical work. Desk Assistants emphasize in building strong communication skills, customer service, teamwork, serving as a resource for campus information and other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Delivery and pick up of North campus mail, packages. Search database to find current students that have moved to other areas. Forward off campus mail, record packages and travel through inclement weather. Must understand confidentiality and the rules of mail processing. Prefer students that can work between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. for mail delivery. Desk hours of operation are 9:00 a.m to 7:00 p.m. Monday - Friday; Saturday 9:00 am- 3:00pm.
Work with students and parents to address questions and concerns. Answer phones, respond to emails, and handle walk-in visitors to the Housing office. Help clerical staff with filing and organization of residential files.  Notify Living Center staff of messages and deliveries. May occasionally assist with special tasks such as Housing tours, departmental interviews, and residential programs.
Moving large items of furniture within and around the campus. Driving cargo van or truck. Must be able to lift up to 60lbs. Tracking and maintenance of Housing furniture inventory. Must have chauffeurs license to drive truck or cargo van, work study is preferred.
The purpose of this position is to prepare buildings and rooms for guests, serve as campus liaisons during guest stay, and prepare building for resident or additional guest usage after guest departure. This position also serves as a summer desk assistant position, which helps perform front desk administrative functions, including keys, facilities, mail and packages, and general clerical work. This position is for the summer only and lasts the entire Spring/Summer break.
