The Frederik Meijer Honors College at Grand Valley State offers a distinctive learning community and extraordinary opportunities for academically motivated students. It combines the best of the selective liberal arts college tradition with the resources, facilities, and affordability of a major state university. While participating in Honors, students (even freshmen!) can live in premium housing in the Glenn A. Niemeyer Learning and Living Center, learn through a distinctive interdisciplinary curriculum, and become true leaders who make a difference in their world. In the Frederik Meijer Honors College, therefore, students have the optimal environment to live, learn, and lead.

The Frederik Meijer Honors College Advantage:

Personalized instruction - form close intellectual relationships with faculty specifically selected for their credentials and passion for teaching. Classes are normally capped at 25 or less, and often have two teachers.
Interdisciplinary education - Honors courses are truly interdisciplinary, approaching topics from many different lenses, and asking students to think across traditional academic boundaries.
Live where you learn - take advantage of classes and faculty offices in the impressive new learning-living center, where you become part of a nurturing learning community.
Undergraduate research - gain experience collaborating with faculty on your research projects, and get special opportunities to present your work on and off campus.

The Mission of the Frederik Meijer Honors College is to provide a challenging interdisciplinary liberal education in a personal, nurturing living/learning environment. Honors education encourages students to develop high-level skills, knowledge and expertise, and prepares them to be intellectually curious, life-long learners and extraordinarily capable leaders in their communities and the world.
