Diversity Courses

All students are required to fulfill two diversity requirements, one U.S. Diversity and one World Perspective. Students do not need to take Meijer Honors courses to fulfill these requirements. Options are as follows:

U.S. Diversity
 

  • American Civilization Sequence: HNR 213/214 (Fall Semester) and HNR 223/224 (Winter Semester)
  • HNR 312 as your Junior Seminar
  • A course that fits into your major, which fulfills the U.S. Diversity Requirement
  • Any General Education course that fulfills the U.S. Diversity Requirement

World Perspectives

  • Islamic Middle East Sequence HNR 209/210 (Fall) and HNR 219/220 (Winter)
  • Classical World Sequence HNR 211/212 (Fall) and HNR 221/222 (Winter)
  • European Civilization Sequence HNR 215/216 (Fall) and HNR 225/226 (Winter)
  • Making of Europe Sequence HNR 217 (Fall of First Year), HNR 218 (Winter of First Year), HNR 227 (Fall of Second Year), and HNR 228 (Winter of Second Year)
  • HNR 300, HNR 311, or HNR 331 as your Junior Seminar
  • ANT 204 E (fulfills one of the Honors Social Science requirements as well)
  • A course that fits into your major that fulfills the World Perspectives Requirement
  • Any General Education course that fulfills the World Perspectives Requirement


Example of how to determine whether a course fulfills the requirement:  

The following is an example of how a course is noted for fulfilling the U.S. Diversity in the Undergraduate & Graduate Catalog:

SOC 280 Social Problems. Examines a range of social conditions, arrangements, and behaviors typically defined as problems in modern society. Applies sociological analysis to understand how problems arise from the organization of society, and the processes by responses to social problems. Fulfills Social Sciences Foundation. Fulfills U.S. Diversity requirement. Three credits. Offered every semester.
