Submission Materials Please submit all of the following:
  1. Your self-assessment. Instructions: You should first complete on your own the "Self Assessment for Prospective Students" (see the Admissions Requirements page at In a few paragraphs, please explain how your self-assessment affirms your decision to apply to the Meijer Honors College. In your description, please also address any factors we should consider with regard to your qualifications (e.g., if you do not meet the ACT and/or GPA expectations).

  2. An essay. Please answer one of the following as thoughtfully as you can in an essay of at least a page or two. The essay should be an original composition that addresses one of the prompts, not a previously written piece or something adapted from another occasion.

    1. How can one be intellectually open to new ideas and be willing to change and adapt while still retaining a sense of one's own identity and beliefs? Describe how you have employed this in your own experience.
    2. There are a lot of aphorisms about the importance of failure to success. How would you characterize the value or lack of value of failure? Give at least one example from your own life to illustrate your characterization.
    3. If you were charged with making one profound difference in the world, what issue would you tackle? What would you be prepared to sacrifice to achieve it? How do you envision your Honors College experience equipping and preparing you to lead in the journey ahead?
    4. Describe in some detail an academic awakening (or "aha" moment) that you have experienced. What prompted it and what did you learn from it?

  3. A sample of your best analytical writing from high school. Preferably, this should be a research paper.
