2012 Homecoming Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are needed to ensure the success of all of our homecoming events. We appreciate any help that you can provide. Shifts are short so you can also enjoy the homecoming activities - please sign up for your desired shift and assignment below. A representative will be in contact with further details. All volunteers will receive a FREE Homecoming shirt and complimentary tickets to the tailgate buffet! Plus, two lucky volunteers will be selected at random to view the homecoming football game from the alumni suite!

If you are unable to sign up for a position, the shifts are full. Please select another volunteer position, or email the Alumni Relations office alumni@gvsu.edu to see how else you may help.

First Aid Cart *

Pancake Breakfast Registration Table *

Help greet and register guests. Check off pre-registered guests on guest list. Obtain payment for onsite registrants. Seed money and a cash box will be provided.

Volunteer Tent/Registration *

Greet and welcome volunteers. Check them in and review their shift duties. Alert the volunteer captain if a volunteer does not arrive.

Alumni Association Expo Table *

Distribute information about the Alumni Association and answer questions, give out membership cards, keep giveaway table restocked. Distribute information about the Alumni Volunteer Program, recruit people for Community Outreach Week, project hosts or get info from alums who work in non-profits, etc.

Reunion Row & Campus Expo Information Station *

Answer general questions about Homecoming Activities. Check in Reunion Row groups (a list of participants and a tent diagram will be provided.) Inform individuals of schedule of events for all homecoming activities. Flyers will be available for distribution.

Alumni Tailgater Registration Assistance (4 needed per shift) *

Greet and register guests. There will be two separate registration tables, one for pre-registered guests and one for on-site registration. Pre-registered guests need to be checked off the registration list and will receive a wrist band which allows them through the food line as proof of payment. For onsite registrants, the name of the alumni or friend of the university needs to be obtained as well as contact information including an email address, as well as the number of guests attending with them. Onsite registrants also need to be given appropriate number of wrist bands.

First Shift - 3:30 - 5:00 p.m.

Second Shift - 5:00 - 6:30 p.m.

Bounce House *

Serve as main attendant. Staff the Bounce House and also get signed waivers for participants, explain rules, help children in and out, distribute prizes, etc.

Obstacle Course *

Serve as main attendant, get signed waivers for participants, give directions, help participants (especially children), distribute prizes, etc.

Photo Booth *

Get signed waivers for participants, give directions, help participants (especially children) with equipment, distribute prizes, etc.

Plate Distribution (2 per shift needed) *

Greet guests; ensure they have a wrist band in order to go through the meal line. If guests did NOT receive a wrist band, they must register at registration table alongside of the Kelly Family Sports Complex. No guests should be allowed to enter the tent/meal line without a ticket except for band members, cheerleaders, dance team members, and facilities staff who can be identified by appropriate uniforms.

Point Persons *

Greet guests and let them know the events that are taking place. Answer any of their questions, direct them to the registration table if they need to check in, let them know what reunion row and the expos are and where the food is.

Parking/Arrival Assistance *

Stationed at Laker Village Dr. Assist with directing people and car traffic. Assist with Expo and Reunion Row move in. Encourage people to visit expo. Place directional signs.
