Parade of Lights 2012
GVSU was one of almost 80 entries in the annual Parade of Lights. We were incredibly well represented by the Laker for a Lifetime--Bridging the Lakeshore Banner, Louie the Laker, the GVSU Cheer Team and a blue and white glowing decorated car with GVSU magnets on the side. In addition, more than 20 additional walkers (made up of alumni, GVSU Holland faculty, staff, students and families as well as Dean Hiskes and Simone Jonaitis from the Brooks College of Interdisciplinary Studies) were all decorated in lights and shared candy, Louie the Laker tattoos, and GVSU Holland glow pencils. The streets were packed with families and kids of all ages lining the streets at least 6 people deep in most spots.
It was exciting that this was Louie the Laker's and many on the cheer team's first time in Holland and it was GVSU's first time being represented in the parade. And we made a great appearance in a great community. They did a great job interacting with kids and families on the streets and of course, everyone loved seeing Louie the Laker.
We have a student worker in Holland, Carlson who is an international student from Cameroon, in west Africa. It is his first year here at Grand Valley and his first time ever experiencing a parade like this, as well as his first time seeing Santa. He proudly wore his GVSU Volleyball Team jersey and was grinning from ear to ear while waving to the attendees.
