Ralph W. Hauenstein Series
Events by the Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies
Hauenstein Center debates and conferences are becoming some of West Michigan's most anticipated events. The Ralph W. Hauenstein Series of events brings public servants, leading scholars, and award-winning writers to Grand Rapids to discuss U.S. presidents and domestic and world affairs. The series explores important books, themes in American history, political traditions, current affairs, and leadership. Since 2003, the Hauenstein Center has offered more than 275 public programs, including three national conferences covered by C-SPAN, and three internationally web cast debates -- one to more than 3,500 viewers in eighteen countries, and another watched on YouTube by more than 75,000 people in 30 nations on all six inhabited continents.
This lecture series is taking on increasing importance as we witness the demise of numerous newspapers across the country. The Hauenstein Center is fast becoming the community's new fourth branch of government, keeping citizens attuned to the most important national and global affairs. Leading presidential historian Richard Norton Smith has called the Center's Ralph W. Hauenstein Series "lively, intensely topical, and, in the best sense, intellectually provocative." Join us for this year's exciting slate of public events!
