Chapter 6 - Pew Campus - Grand Rapids

            All fines incurred as a result of a parking violation will be processed by the established Parking Violation Bureau on the Allendale campus (see Chapter 3 of this Traffic and Parking Ordinance).           

6.1       All sections of these ordinances apply to the Pew Campus with the following exceptions and additions:

6.2       Accidents:  All accidents occurring on the Pew Campus must be reported promptly to Campus Security at (616) 331-6677.

6.3       Parking on Campus:  Parking is reserved and enforced throughout the calendar year.  Parking is permitted only in marked spaces in regular parking lots or designated areas throughout the campus.  All officially designated parking areas are posted.  If an area is not posted for parking, you may not park there.  Parking permits are required in all Grand Valley parking lots in Allendale and Grand Rapids.  In lieu of a parking permit, you may park/pay at parking meters located in select areas around campus.  The following are designated and defined parking areas on the Pew Campus:

Faculty/Staff Parking-Faculty/Staff Permit Required: (Ref. Sec: 2.5)

Depot Lot Entrance off of Fulton St. directly west of Winter Lot
DeVos Lot Entrance off and exit on Winter Ave.
Mt. Vernon Lot Entrance off and exit on Mt. Vernon Ave., south of Fulton St.
Eberhard Lot                   Entrance off and exit on Front St.
Center for Health Sciences              Upper Level - Reserved parking for faculty/staff and visitors
Lower Level - Reserved parking for faculty/staff.
Lafayette Lot Entrance on Lafayette, south of Michigan St.


Vehicles displaying a valid faculty/staff permit are authorized to park in any student commuter area except for the Seward Parking Ramp.
 

Resident Parking - Resident Permit Required:

Secchia Lot                                     Enter off of Mt. Vernon Ave., south of Fulton St.
Watson Lot                                    Entrance off and exit on Watson St. near Mt. Vernon Ave. Designated resident parking area only.

When parking on the Allendale campus, Pew campus residents must park in the designated Commuter student parking lots. Do not park in Allendale resident lots.


Student (Commuter) Parking - Student Permit Required:  (Ref. Sec: 2.3)

Seward Lot/Ramp Entrances off and exits on both Lake Michigan Dr. and Fulton Streets.
Winter Lot Entrance off and exit on Fulton St. next to the SBDC near Winter Ave.


Visitor Parking - Visitor Permit Required:

Center for Health Sciences Entrance off Michigan Ave. & Lafayette St.  Exit on Michigan Ave.  15-minute metered spaces are located at entrance off of Lafayette Ave.
 Lafayette Lot  Entrance on Lafayette ave., south of Michigan St.  Payment is required in lieu of a visitor pass.
 Watson Lot  Resident hall visitors must obtain a visitor parking permit and park in the resident section of the Watson lot.
 Winter Circle Drive  Payment is required at all times.


When inviting guests on campus, individuals are expected to inform them in advance of the available parking locations and regulations.  Visitor permits are available at Campus Security.  All metered parking is considered visitor parking.  Payment of meters is required unless a valid visitor permit is displayed.  Jammed, failed, or otherwise malfunctioning meters are considered NO PARKING ZONESReport these meters to Campus Security.

Metered parking is enforced from 7:00am to 6:30pm, Monday through Friday.  Housing meters are enforced at all times.

Limited parking for faculty/staff and visitors is available at the Center for Health Sciences (CHS) building.  It is recommended that students take advantage of the DASH to the Hill shuttle.  This shuttle picks up on the corner of Seward Ave. and Lake Michigan Drive, across from the Seward Parking Ramp.  Frequency varies throughout the day.  Questions about the DASH shuttle should be directed to the Pew Campus Operations office at (616) 331-6700.

6.4       Conference Guests:  Parking for conference guests is in the Fulton lot.  Overflow parking is available in the Front lot.

6.5       Compact Vehicle Spaces/Small Car Only spaces:  Any vehicle that does not fit entirely in all sides of these spaces will be considered in violation of this section and subject to citation for improper parking.  All spaces are clearly signed and hashed at the ends.

6.6       Handicap Parking:  Mobility impaired persons shall be issued, without charge, a temporary permit (not to exceed 30 days, non renewable) which will permit parking in special parking areas assigned for this purpose.  A written statement from a physician must accompany such a request made to Campus Security.  Handicapped permit holders (state issued and temporary) may also park at meters without payment or any other regular parking space if no signed handicapped spaces are available.  A valid GVSU permitmust be displayed along with the handicapped permit, including when parking at meters (payment not required).  Handicapped parking spaces are located in the areas listed below:

Center for Health Sciences Ramp
Depot Lot
Front Lot
Eberhard Lot
DeVos Lot
Laffayette Lot
Secchia Lot
Seward Ramp
Winter Circle Drive


6.7       Car Pool/Alternative Fuel Parking:  Vehicles must be registered with Campus Security to utilize these spaces in the Eberhard Lot.  Any vehicle that does not display the proper permit for these spaces will be cited.  These spaces are enforced 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week.  For further information, please contact Campus Security at (616) 331-6677.

6.8       Motorcycle/Moped Parking:  All two-wheeled motorized vehicles must utilize designated parking areas as outlined below:

DeVos Lot 2 Regular parking spaces in the handicap parking area.  These spaces for motorcycles and mopeds only from April 1 to November 1 each year.  From November 1 to March 31, these spaces are available to regular vehicles.
DeVos Loading Dock                    Hashed and signed areas are available year round.
Eberhard Loading Dock Hashed and signed areas are available year round.
Secchia Lot Hashed areas at the end of rows year round.
Watson Lot Signed reserved area directly east of the entrance is available year round.


6.9       Impoundment:  Vehicles parked in violation of the established Grand Valley State University Traffic and Parking Ordinance and consistent with the Michigan Vehicle Code and the Uniform Traffic Code for Cities, Townships and Villages are subject to impoundment by Campus Security.


6.10     Bicycles:  Bicycles on campus must be stored in the provided bicycle racks.  Any bike improperly chained to trees, fences or post will be removed at owner’s expense.  No bicycles will be allowed inside the buildings.


6.11     Overnight Parking:  Overnight parking in any non-resident lot is prohibited except with permission of Campus Security.  Residents of Secchia and Winter Halls must park overnight in the Secchia Lot or in designated resident spaces in the Watson lot – permit required.  Visitors of residents must park in designated resident spaces in the Watson lot – permit required. Visitors of residents may NOT park in the Secchia lot.


6.12     Sidewalk Restrictions:  Sidewalks and walkways are restricted to pedestrian, bicycle, and motorized wheelchair use only.  It is illegal to operate or park a moped, motorcycle or other motor vehicle on a sidewalk or walkway.


6.13     Disabled Vehicles:  Disabled vehicles on campus must be reported to Campus Security immediately.  Once registered as disabled, the vehicle may remain on campus for a period not to exceed twenty-four (24) hours while arrangements are made for removal.

 6.14    Loading Zones:  Loading and unloading must be done in a designated loading zone or from a marked parking space.  Curbs are not loading zones.  Time limit shall be 15 minutes.  The following areas are designated loading zones:

Center for Health Sciences           Located on the north side of the building off of Lafayette Ave.
DeVos Center Located on the east side of the building off of Mt. Vernon Ave.
Eberhard/Kennedy/Keller Located on the south end of the parking area off of Front Ave.


Loading at all other buildings requires parking in a regular parking space with the appropriate permit or metered parking with payment.
