Grand Valley students in the Pre-Med Club practiced suturing bananas and pig feet during a clinic in November.

Medical students from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine led the clinic, teaching nearly 50 Grand Valley students three different suturing stitches, according to Debra Burg, associate professor of biomedical sciences.

Arrangements for the clinic, which was held at Grand Valley for the first time, were made by the CLAS Academic Advising Center.

Burg also said the MSU students answered a lot of questions about medical school and the Early Assurance Program, an agreement between Grand Valley and MSU that provides enhanced opportunities for qualified GVSU students to be admitted into MSU’s program.
