Students recognized for outstanding service to community

Thirty-three Grand Valley students received awards from the Michigan Campus Compact for their dedication and commitment to community service during the 17th annual Outstanding Student Service Awards, held April 13 in Lansing. More than 450 students from 33 campuses received awards.

Grand Valley students Joshua Lycka and Caitlin Stoltman received the Commitment to Service Award, which was given to 33 students statewide and recognizes students for their dedication to community involvement of students.

The Heart and Soul Award, which recognizes students for their time, effort and personal commitment to their communities through service, was given to 31 Grand Valley students: Megan Boundy, Andrew Brown, Veronica Burt, Rosa Fleming, Gwen Gell, Laura Gibson, Mitchell Grewer, Amanda Harvey, Amanda Haupt, Kaylen Hook, Kailee Howard, Kelly Jameson, Jose Jimenez, Elizabeth Josey, Lucy Keller, Erin Kephart, Nika Kusmierz, Sydney Lukas, Cassie Miles, Sarah Opdycke, Megan Peterson, Tran Pham, Julia Raap, Irma Y Ramirez, Kelsey Rice, Garrett Sawyer, Rachel Shinsky, Eric Stevens, Michelle Vader, Stephanie Voelck and Tracie Webster.

Michigan Campus Compact is a coalition of college and university presidents committed to fulfilling the public purpose of higher education. It promotes the education and commitment of Michigan college students to be civically engaged citizens, through creating and expanding academic, co-curricular and campus-wide opportunities for community service, service-learning and civic engagement.
