Month of the Young Child celebrates children and families

The Children’s Enrichment Center will host a variety of events in April to celebrate Month of the Young Child, a national celebration that aims to raise awareness about relevant issues impacting young children and families.
A clothing drive to benefit the YWCA in Grand Rapids will take place from April 19-30. Donations can be dropped off at the Children’s Enrichment Center, located on the Allendale Campus.

- Dollar Day fundraiser, April 1. Faculty and staff members will receive an envelope in their mailboxes encouraging them to donate one dollar to the center. Funds will go toward providing child care support for student-parents.
- “The Raising of America” documentary showing and discussion, April 2, noon-1:30 p.m., room 1104, Kirkhof Center. The film focuses on the economic impact of educating young children. Approved for LIB 100 classes.
- Child abuse prevention panel, April 10, 2-3:30 p.m., room 2215, Kirkhof Center. Representatives from local organizations will discuss the emotional, social and physical devastation that is caused by child abuse and neglect. Approved for LIB 100 classes.
- Children’s Art Show and Reception, April 17, noon-1 p.m., Mary Idema Pew Library Exhibition Hall. RSVP at www.gvsu.edu/child.
Month of the Young Child was created by the National Association for the Education of Young Children to support early childhood growth and development. This is the fifth year the Children’s Enrichment Center will participate in the national celebration.
