High school students on 41 teams from across the state gathered at Grand Valley to compete in the For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) Robotics District Competition on March 16 and 17.
The teams competed in the Fieldhouse Arena on the Allendale Campus with robots they built and designed for the competition. This year’s game field was “Rebound Rumble,” which challenges two competing teams to score the most basketballs in a hoop with their robots.
The competition helps students get hands-on experience solving real-world problems and discover the excitement and rewards of science and technology careers. The teams had six weeks to design and build the robots for the competition.
Winners will move onto the state championship April 12-14 at Eastern Michigan University. The national competition will take place in St. Louis, MO.
