As new and returning students move in and get settled on campus, Student Life has planned a series of events from August 20-25.

August 20, 8 p.m.-midnight
The Meijer in Standale has a special night planned for the Grand Valley community. Charter buses will run in a continuous loop from the Kirkhof Center and Mackinac Hall to Meijer. The last bus will leave Meijer at midnight.
Off-Campus Student Welcome
August 21, 6:30-7:30 p.m., Kirkhof Center, Grand River Room
All new students who live off-campus are invited to participate in this free dinner. Students will meet their Transitions leaders and go to the first event that evening.
Laker for a Lifetime Kickoff Party
August 21, 9-11 p.m., Parking Lot C
All students, faculty and staff members are invited to teach new students what it means to be a Laker for a Lifetime. There will be carnival food, a DJ, live dance performances, a cornhole tournament, a service project and information booths.
Welcome Mixer for New Students of Color
August 22, 4-6 p.m., Alumni House
New students are invited to meet student leaders of Grand Valley’s cultural organizations, as well as faculty and staff members. RSVP is required through OrgSync.
Laker Fan Fest and Rec Fest
August 22, 7-9 p.m., Kelly Family Sports Center and Campus Recreation Center
Students can tour facilities, meet members of Laker sports teams, and visit the Rock Climbing wall, among others.
Laker Weekends First Friday! at the Kirkhof Center
August 23, 7 p.m.-midnight
The Kirkhof Center will host a variety of events, including a Laker Traditions Fashion Show, Intramural Video Game Tournament and live comedy show and music. The Women’s Center, LGBT Resource Center, Office of Multicultural Affairs and Student Organization Center will host open houses.
August 24, 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Kirkhof Center, Grand River Room
Service Saturdays are monthly events sponsored by Alternative Breaks and the Community Service Learning Center to introduce students to service opportunities in the community. RSVP is required at www.gvsu.edu/service.
Back to School Bash and Cris Cab Concert
August 24, 1-4 p.m. and 4-6 p.m., Kirkhof Center, east lawn
Join the Greek Life Council and Spotlight productions for an afternoon with free food, inflatable games and a live performance by artist Cris Cab.
