Jeff Potteiger, dean of Graduate Studies, was interviewed by the Washington Post for a story about which athletes are the fittest.
Cindy Laug, administrative assistant for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, will give a presentation, “The Extinction of the Passenger Pigeon,” on May 8, 8 p.m., at the Women’s City Club in Grand Rapids.
Mary Schutten, associate dean for CLAS and professor of movement science, and Colleen Lewis, associate professor of movement science, gave a presentation, “The Road Less Traveled: Curricular Mapping for Physical Education,” at the Society of Health and Physical Education, America Conference in St. Louis, Missouri.
University Communications received PRoof Awards from the West Michigan Public Relations Society of America for Through the Decades Video, Seidman Center Dedication Event, Health Campus Press Conference, Hauenstein Center Investment Media Relations, Grand Valley Magazine, Cyril Lixenberg Exhibition, Campus Life on Instagram, Brick by Brick Video, Around Grand Valley Tour Video, and Annis Water Resource Video.
Steven Lipnicki, assistant dean of students, gave two presentations, “Regional Collaborations” and “Organizational Design for Serving Veterans,” at the Consortium of Michigan Veteran Educators Conference in Lansing.
Peimin Ni, professor of philosophy, wrote an article, “Rectify the Heart-Mind for the Art of Living – A Confucian Approach to Desire,” published in Philosophy East and West.
Lindsay Ellis, assistant professor of English, received a grant from the National Writing Project for the 2014-2016 SEED Teacher Leadership Development project.
Rachel Powers, associate professor of chemistry, received an AREA (R15) grant from the National Institutes of Health for a project, “Structure-Based Discovery and Design of Novel Class D Beta-Lacatamase Inhibitors.”
John Weber, professor of geology, gave a presentation, “GPS: How it Works & Earth Science (Tectonics) Applications,” at Calvin College’s physics/astronomy seminar series.
Marlene Kowalski-Braun, assistant vice provost for student affairs, was named an Inner Circle Honoree by Inforum-West Michigan Region.
