Grand Valley Police Department Capt. Brandon DeHaan was named by Michigan First Lady Sue Snyder to the Campus Sexual Assault Workgroup, which is tasked with developing resources for assault survivors.
Evelyn Clingerman, executive director of The Bonnie Wesorick Center for Health Care Transformation, was named to the Nursing Academies of Practice Council, as nursing academy vice chair. Clingerman also gave a presentation, "Polarity Scans Supplement Integrative Health and Wellness for Nurse Educators," at the American Holistic Nurses Association Annual Conference in Rancho Mirage, California.
Paulette Chaponniere, assistant professor of nursing, wrote an article, “Acculturation, Stress, and Birth Outcomes in Mexican and Mexican American Women,” published in the Journal of Cultural Competence in Nursing and Healthcare.
Dan Royer, professor of writing, wrote an article, "Rhetorical Styles in University Accreditation: Judgmental Rules or Collaborative Creation?" published in the American Journal of Economics and Sociology.
Rebecca Hambleton, director of study abroad and international partnerships, was elected to serve on the Executive Board for the Japan Center for Michigan Universities, a consortium composed of the 15 public universities in Michigan.
Dianne Conrad, assistant professor of nursing, was a co-author of a book, The Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Project, which was selected as one of the winners for the 2016 Alpha Sigma Nu book awards.
Deborah Bambini, professor of nursing, and Michael J. Shoemaker, associate professor of physical therapy, were among the authors of an article, “Replicable Interprofessional Competency Outcomes from High-Volume, Inter-Institutional, Interprofessional Simulation,” published in the journal Contemporary Issues in Pharmacy Education.
Angela Peavey, adjunct instructor of communications, earned an "Best Commercial" Emmy award from National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences-Michigan for her work promoting the Saugatuck Center for the Arts.
Genevieve Elrod, assistant professor of nursing, gave a presentation, “The Needs of Older Adults Recently Diagnosed with Cancer,” at the Oncology Nursing Society Congress in Denver, Colorado.
Erin Chillag, affiliate faculty of nursing, gave a presentation, “Medically Refractory Paroxysmal Kinesigenic Dyskinesia in a 7 year old with a Novel PRRT2 Mutation,” at the International Congress of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders in Vancouver, Canada.
David Alvarez, professor of English, gave a presentation, "'We Are Just Building a Cemetery in Our Mediterranean Sea': Illegalized Migration and Necropolitics," at the 20th annual International Mediterranean Studies Association Conference at the University of Malta.
John Kilbourne, professor of movement science, gave presentations, "Using Traditional Arctic Games to Promote Peace and Sustainability in the North," at the International Congress of Arctic Social Sciences Conference in Umea, Sweden; and "Using Traditional Games to Promote Peace and Sustainability in the Arctic," at the Understanding Peace in the Arctic Conference in Tromso, Norway.
