Grand Valley's School of Engineering is hosting Engineering Design Conference Week from July 29-August 2.

The week features several showcases of the talents of engineering students, including senior projects and boats used to test fluid dynamics.

Seventy of the boats will compete in a design contest on July 29. Each 1/12 scale boat was built by a student to understand how fluid mechanics can be applied to real-world sailboat designs. The same boats will be tested on July 31 in a speed competition that will take place at 4 p.m. in room 102 of the Keller Engineering Labs.

Other events include a welcome lunch for first-year engineering students, as well as a forum that will allow discussion about engineering co-op programs.

Events conclude on August 2 with senior project showcases from 1:30-3:45 p.m. in the Innovation Design Center, and an Order of the Engineer ring ceremony.
