Record Attendance at Graduate Student Orientation

Graduate Student Orientation was held on August 25, 2010 with over 320 graduate student participants - a new record for attendance! It was a great opportunity for the new graduate students to be addressed by the new Dean of Graduate Studies, Dr. Jeffrey Potteiger.  In addition to Dean Potteiger’s welcome and overview of graduate education at GVSU, attendees also heard presentations on a graduate student blueprint for success, PACES, library services, and computer use and services.

Since 2003, the Graduate Student Orientation and Resource Fair has attracted more students each year by providing opportunities for students to acclimate to the University, learn about services and resources, meet fellow graduate students, faculty, and staff, purchase books, and obtain student ID cards.

As more graduate programs have scheduled their academic orientation on the same day, their students were able to accomplish a great deal with maximum efficiency.

Additionally, while the feedback from students is overwhelmingly positive, after every orientation we receive improvement suggestions for the future and incorporate as many as we can. If you attended in August, we hope that you will take the time to complete the event evaluation.

If you could not attend, you will find a wealth of information on the Virtual Graduate Student Orientation www.gvsu.edu/gsga/virtualand Graduate Student www.gvsu.edu/gradstudentswebpages
