Graduate Studies

New Graduate Presidential Research Grant Recipients

Graduate Presidential Research Grants are awarded three times per year, corresponding with the Fall, Winter, and Spring/Summer semesters.

Twelve students received awards for Spring/Summer 2010 research, all of which were awarded grants near or at the maximum of $1,000. Interestingly, a couple of students were impeded by external influences that required them to adjust their budgets. For example, one student researcher planned to rent a vehicle but found that she could not do so because auto rental companies would not rent to someone under the age of 25. In another instance, certain supplies the student needed were not available, so he devised an alternative method for conducting the same research.

Five students were awarded grants for the Fall 2010 semester. Those students received awards ranging from $199 to $1000.   At the present time, their research is underway and should be completed by the end of December, with their final reports submitted to the Office of Graduate Studies next March.

It should be noted that the Office of Graduate Studies is more than willing to work with student researchers on such things as budget adjustments, as long as any changes do not impact the nature of the research. Awards do not cover the cost of traveling to conferences, presenting results, or for general attendance.

Award recipients are listed below, along with their graduate research advisors.
