Henry Peña is a humble, hardworking student in the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program, graduating in April. He currently serves as the President of the Graduate Student Association. Some of his other accomplishments include:

  • Cook Leadership Academy (CLA), lead fellow (2023-present)
  • Kirkhof College of Nursing (KCON) Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Student 2021-present
  • Cook Leadership Academy, fellow (CLA) 2022-2023

  • Kirkhof College of Nursing Graduate Student Organization President 2022-2023
  • Co-Founder, Multicultural Student Nurses Organization MSNO (GVSU) Established 12/2022, President MSNO 5/2023-present

As a Registered Nurse, Henry’s passion for healthcare is connected to his commitment to leadership, education, advocacy work, and serving others. The diverse experiences and responsibilities he has undertaken through the Cook Leadership Academy, his graduate assistantship, academic pursuits, and his leadership roles have collectively shaped an academic career that is not only fulfilling, but allows Henry to contribute, meaningfully, to the advancement of nursing and healthcare as a whole.

Henry says, “This holistic approach to my profession, combining clinical expertise with leadership and education, is what makes every aspect of my work unique and rewarding.” After graduation, Henry plans to successfully pass the nurse practitioner (NP) board certification exam and secure a position in a nearby primary care practice, leveraging his unique work background and bilingual proficiency to cater to the needs of the Hispanic population. He would also enjoy taking on a role as an adjunct faculty member at the Kirkhof College of Nursing, to contribute to the development of future nurses. Additionally, he plans to explore opportunities to participate in local city or district committees, where his diverse healthcare and leadership experiences can play a pivotal role in enhancing healthcare accessibility for underserved communities.

The Graduate School appreciates all of Henry’s hard work and we wish him the best of luck as he enters his final semester of graduate school.
