Higher Education Students Receive Prestigious Awards

Two students will be honored at the ACPA annual convention this March.

Congratulations to Kathryn Timm ‘16, M.Ed. in Higher Education student, who will receive the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) Commission for Academic Support in Higher Education's 2016 Outstanding Graduate Student Award in March; she will receive her award in Montreal, Canada, during ACPA’s annual convention. This award is presented to one graduate student each year who has shown outstanding work in the field of academic support. The individual must be currently enrolled in a masters or doctoral program at an accredited college or university. 

In her graduate assistant role, Kathryn works as an academic advisor in the College of Community and Public Service at GVSU, where she meets with students individually to discuss academic planning, university policy, high-impact practices, and career exploration; leads transfer student orientation sessions; contribute to advising center assessment initiatives; and has taught study skills workshops. 

Congratulations to Ashleigh Begres ‘16, M.Ed. in Higher Education student, who will receive the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) Commission for Student Involvement 2016 Outstanding Master’s Level Graduate Student Award in March; she will receive her award in Montreal, Canada, during ACPA’s annual convention. This award is presented to one currently enrolled master's student each year who works or conduct research in one of the functional areas the Commission for Student Involvement addresses (i.e., student organizations & activities, community service & service-learning, leadership education, and/or fraternity & sorority affairs). 

In her graduate assistant role, Ashleigh does campus programming at Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC) in the Office of Student Life & Conduct. Her responsibilities include advising the Campus Activities Board (CAB), which includes recruiting, training, and supervising CAB members (students); overseeing a $100,000 activities budget; training students to use RSO software, and overseeing GRCC’s food bank.
